ISTRIAN DANCE BALUN

Choreography and music: Đuro Adamović

Balun is the most widespread folk dance on the Istrian peninsula. It is danced in pairs evenly distributed in a circle, with a counterclockwise rotation. The lead dancer shouts or kicks his leg and signals to the other dancers to change the dance figure. The musical accompaniment is performed on the Istrian mih, a goatskin instrument similar to bagpipes. Pay attention to the nasal singing that imitates the sound of the instruments of that region.
