THE POSAVINA DANCES

Choreography and music: Zvonimir Ljevaković

The higher the dancers jump in this part of the choreography, the more the flax will grow in the area southeast of Zagreb, our capital city. Flax production in Posavina was almost perfected. This is particularly visible in the women's folk costume with rich embroidery, which is often presented as a representative Croatian folk costume. We are introduced to the story by the young women's dance called the Tančec. This is followed by characteristic dances in a circle, pairs or fours, and the movement inside the circle is stylistically marked by gentle shaking. In a couple dance version hand and leg movements imitate the sifting of flour.
